In order to better understand what is happening at Bykota today, it is helpful to look at Bykota's history. Bykota Baptist Church (Ephesians 4:32, Be Ye Kind One To Another) was founded in 1952 as a mission church of First Baptist Church in Carthage. The newly formed church actively supported their local and state denomination and presented the traditional programs, doctrines, and teachings of the Southern Baptist Convention. The next 30 years brought growth and development to Bykota. Then in 1983, the church began to explore a “Spirit-filled” approach to ministry and began to preach an increasingly non-Baptist message. After much prayer and discussion, Bykota Church formally left the Baptist denomination in July of 1988. Since the church’s name was already established in the community, it was shortened from Bykota Baptist Church to Bykota Church. In September of 2001, Bykota joined a fellowship of Churches called Church of the Nations. This relationship opened new avenues of ministry and resulted in a new structure, approach to ministry, and a name change to Bykota Ministries. In the years since the church's departure from the denomination, the people of Bykota have continued to pursue the Lord with freedom, fervor, and joy.
