Karen Downs
Youth Team Leader
Karen is a native resident of Carthage.  She graduated from Carthage High School and then Southwest Missouri State University, now Missouri State University in Springfield, MO.  She received a bachelor's degree in education and taught as an elementary teacher at Granby elementary school for four years.  She and her husband Danny have three children; David, Amy and Beth.  Karen and her family have attended Bykota since 1996. Karen feels it is a privilege to be able to work with youth and is passionate about helping each one develop a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

Student Ministry at Bykota meets on Wednesday nights at the Community Center and goes by the name "Power House".  The Power House is directed by a ministry team.  Karen Downs serves as team leader.  Additional leaders are from the high school and college age participants. The purpose of the the Power House is to prepare students to be grounded spiritually so that they can have a deep sense of ownership in their relationship with God and fulfill the great purposes of God for their lives.

Each week through games, lessons, and small group time, kingdom principles are discussed and put into practice. Throughout the year, the students have the opportunity to participate in various activities including camp, a retreat, and fun activities.

If you have an interest in getting involved with this next generation, we would like to hear from you.  You can let Karen know or contact us.
